About

Portrait of Shu Chen

Shu is a software engineer who enjoys building software and hardware products—both professionally and as a hobby. He likes turning ideas into things people can use, whether that means shipping at work or tinkering on his own time.

Outside of engineering, he is deeply into music. He plays more than a dozen instruments—including piano, trombone, and saxophone—and has performed at jazz gigs in and around Ottawa, as well as charity concerts for senior homes and similar community events.

He is also drawn to technology beyond his day job: he has been exploring machine learning and AI for years, and he designed and built a high-performance 3D printer entirely on his own. He has a strong interest in finance and in applying computer science and mathematics to markets—a pursuit he has carried since he was sixteen and continues today.
